AAFA Welcomes Obama's Commerce Nomination

The American Apparel & Footwear Association said it welcomes the announcement that President Obama is nominating former Washington Governor Gary Locke to be the next Secretary of Commerce.

"This is an important time for our economy and the apparel and footwear industries," said AAFA President and CEO Kevin M. Burke. "As governor of Washington, Mr. Locke has recognized the ways in which international trade can be an engine for economic growth and opportunity for businesses, manufacturers, and consumers. I look forward to his swift confirmation so that we can begin working together to harness the benefits of trade to move our economy forward and restore consumer confidence."

The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) is the national trade association representing apparel, footwear and other sewn products companies, and their suppliers, which compete in the global market. AAFA's mission is to promote and enhance its members' competitiveness, productivity and profitability in the global market by minimizing regulatory, commercial, political, and trade restraints.
