Antimicrobial Finish Gets Eco-Friendly Update

1/12/2012
SANITIZED AG, a provider of antimicrobial hygiene protection, is releasing an improved version of Sanitized TH 22-27 to the North American market. This antimicrobial treatment was developed as a hygienic textile finish used especially on synthetic and wool fabrics with direct skin contact and that may require high-wash durability. These include clothing textiles such as underwear, outerwear, work wear, sportswear, outdoor wear and shoes.

How Sanitized TH 22-27 promotes freshness
Developed and produced in Switzerland, Sanitized TH 22-27 has a reliable and durable antimicrobial effect against bacteria. It destabilizes the bacterial cell wall and deactivates bacteria that cause unpleasant odors. As a result, consumers who purchase products treated with Sanitized TH 22-27 enjoy the benefit of freshness. The built-in deodorant effect benefits clothing worn during daily exercise, at home, at work, while shopping or playing sports.

By using an adapted version of Sanitized TH 22-27, this benefit of freshness can also be extended to home textiles. Whether from the bedding, carpeting, curtains or upholstery in the home, the freshness brings a sense of security and serenity to these end customers that provides comfort to their homes. These home textiles include carpets, textile wall coverings, upholstery fabric, indoor furniture, sleeping bags, sun blinds, umbrellas, shoe linings, and automotive textiles. Also included are bedding textiles such as covers for pillows and duvets, mattress protectors, and bed linens.

How Sanitized TH 22-27 promotes sustainability
Gentle use of resources. SANITIZED AG strives to develop technologies and procedures that either work without water or with minimum water usage. This is true for the manufacturers who may apply this antimicrobial treatment in combination with other processes. It can be applied when dying with dispersion dyes to PES (polyester) as well as with acidic and metal-complex dyes on PA (polyamide). It may also be applied during the PAD thermosol processes.

Consumers’ sustainable use of resources. Antimicrobial-treated products provide two advantages – they require less laundering and at lower water temperatures. These highly wash-resistant products promote a reduced use of water and electricity. With its built-in deodorant effect, customers may wear the clothing items several times before washing them. As a result, these clothing items last longer – a benefit to the consumer and to the environment.

Impact on the environment. At the beginning of product development, SANITIZED AG determines and evaluates any air pollution emission values and waste water contamination for its final formulation. These values serve as the basis for the recommendations given to the textile finishers and mills. In addition for manufacturers, low application concentrations are needed which translates into reduced packaging and waste volumes as well as lower transportation and storage costs.

Safety for man and the environment.
Sanitized TH 22-27 carries bluesign approval, the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 (class I-IV), and is Allergy UK registered. These indicate it has undergone stringent quality tests and has met the highest requirements.
