Avery Dennison retail tag and ticket plants attain FSC CoC certification

3/25/2008

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--March 17, 2008--Avery Dennison tag and label manufacturing facilities in China and Korea have been granted the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody (CoC) certificate.  This highly valued accreditation means that tags and tickets produced on FSC certified paper stocks at Avery Dennison CoC-certified facilities can now display the FSC logo for apparel manufacturers, retailers and brand owners.

According to Josh Dunn, who is leading the eco-friendly product management team at Avery Dennison Retail Information Services, apparel makers, retailers and brand owners who present the FSC logo on the tags and tickets of their products send a clear message to consumers that their brand stands for responsible paper sourcing and sustainable forest management practices.

"The FSC logo represents a credible, independent organization that has set the standard for rigorous eco-friendly forest controls, management and reporting practices," Dunn says.  "FSC certification is based on principles that combine perpetual growing and harvesting of trees with the protection of wildlife, plants, soil and water."

The Avery Dennison facilities gaining the FSC CoC certification are:

  • Panyu plant, China
  • Unimax Building, San Po Kong, Hong Kong
  • Avery Dennison Paxar Building, San Po Kong, Hong Kong
  • Nansha plant, China
  • Tseung Kwan O, Hong Kong
  • Avery Dennison, Korea

Products certified to carry the FSC logo include tags and tickets made from single-side coated, two-side coated and Kraft paper stocks.

We are proud of our new FSC accreditation for our plants in China and Korea," Dunn reports. "We have gained certification at facilities in other Avery Dennison Divisions, and in 2008 we expect more IBMD (Information and Brand Management Division) sites in Asia will attain the FSC CoC certification as well as facilities in the Americas and Europe.  The supply chain of FSC certified paper stocks, however, is dynamic and evolving. Avery Dennison has a dedicated team working to drive forward the development of all our eco-friendly brand identification solutions to meet the sustainable requirements of apparel brands and retailers around the world."

The Forest Stewardship Council is a non-profit organization that promotes responsible management of the world's forests. The FSC CoC certification is the primary sustainable global standard for paper stock.
