Avery Dennison Throws Support Behind Broad New Global RFID Initiative

Avery Dennison recently announced its support for GS1 EPCglobal's RFID-based Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) that was announced on October 15, calling it a welcome addition through the apparel/retail supply chain.

Avery Dennison is a partner in EPCglobal's EAS Phase 2 Joint Requirement Group, which developed the new guidelines.

On October 15, GS1 EPCglobal's issuing of strategic overview and technical implementation guides for using GS1 EPCglobal RFID-based EAS standards with reusable and disposable tags.

EPCglobal is the joint venture between GS1 (formerly known as EAN International) and GS1 US (formerly the Uniform Code Council, Inc.). It is an organization set up to achieve world-wide adoption and standardization of Electronic Product Code (EPC) technology.

The main focus of the group currently is to create both a world-wide standard for RFID and the use of the Internet to share data via the EPCglobal Network.

Avery Dennison said the initiative will facilitate the rapid replenishment of goods to the retail selling-floor as well as labor-saving source tagging benefits.

As the guides gain acceptance, they will unlock a host of opportunities for cost containment, operational efficiency and inventory accuracy."
