Best Buy Makes Play For Last-Minute Shoppers

In an attempt to capitalize on last-minute holiday shopping Google+ and Best Buy have teamed up to offer a Shoppable Hangout on Christmas Eve. The web event is hosted on Best Buy's Google+ page and will feature some of the season's hottest gadgets.

The live event takes starts at 8 p.m. on December 24 and will be hosted by technology video bloggers Austin Evans, Marques Browniee, Soldier Knows Best and Machinima. The panel will discuss gift ideas and highlight specific products, which will be available for purchase.

Staying true to the "Hangout" moniker, the interactive event will engage and solicit questions from the audience and is intended to have a friendly low-pressure feel. The retailer held a similar event on Google+ on December 17 and drew 240 viewers. Not stellar numbers by any stretch but a promising effort for a first attempt.

The Shoppable Hangouts are a work in progress for Google; the feature is still in beta and is only available to a limited-number of clients. Google has only offered a few hangouts until now. The first was with Diane Von Furstenburg in the fall and Verizon Wireless also ran one for Cyber Monday. Best Buy is the first big box retailer to utilize the service. \
