Best Buy U.K. Explores Selling through Facebook

11/14/2010
Best Buy is taking another step in the transformation of "social media" into "social retailing." The retailer's U.K. operation is planning to allow users to make purchases via Facebook as part of a social commerce push that will be backed up by a seven-figure marketing campaign, according to New Media Age and other published reports.

Richard Clark, head of marketing for online at Best Buy, is quoted in the article saying Best Buy had been using Facebook to build a good reputation and was planning on using the 500 million-member social network to sell products. "We've treated our use of Facebook as a relationship-building exercise, but social commerce is definitely something we're moving towards. Now we have an established community, in the next few months we'll be expanding in that space."

Managing director for online DeVere Foster said "You have to be there. Facebook works as a great window to your shop."
