Borders Names New CIO

Borders Group appoints Susan Harwood as its new chief information officer. Harwood will be responsible for all information technology systems that support the company's business operations in over 1,200 Borders and Waldenbooks stores worldwide, as well as distribution facilities and the company's corporate headquarters. Harwood also will play a key role in supporting the development of Borders.com, the proprietary e-commerce site that the company is slated to launch in early 2008. Prior to joining Borders Group, Harwood served as vice president of IT at Books-A-Million and oversaw all information technology operations for the 200-store retail chain and its subsidiaries. Before that, Harwood was an independent consultant for Crown Books.
