Catered to support increasing testing demand in the Pearl River Delta region

March 28, 2008, Hong Kong -- Bureau Veritas, the world's leader in conformity assessment and certification services, announced today the grand opening of its Guangzhou Textile Testing Laboratory in Panyu, Guangzhou City, China. The new establishment will serve as a key testing facility for the textile industry in South China as well as an enhancement to the Bureau Veritas laboratories network throughout Mainland China.

In response to rising demand for textile testing and assessment services in the Pearl River Delta of Guangdong Province, the world's major manufacturing hub for apparel and textile exports in South China, the strategic location of the Guangzhou Textile Testing Laboratory allows close proximity to manufacturers and factory owners.  This enables Bureau Veritas to respond promptly to the testing and quality assurance needs of Guangdong-based retailers, manufacturers and importers. The Laboratory is accredited by Laboratory Accreditation, Correlation & Evaluation (LACE) of Textile Laboratory Accreditation Scheme as well as Singapore Laboratory Accreditation Scheme of Singapore (SAC-SINGLAS) by Singapore Accreditation Council.

The 8,000 square metres facility has the most up-to-date laboratory equipment and a team of over 200 experienced technical professionals with expected 400 capacity by the end of the year. The laboratory offers a total solution for product testing, ranging from comprehensive analytical testing capabilities to testing and quality assurance services for textile and apparel products for men, women, children's apparel, accessories, footwear, and soft home textiles. Specialized testing services include safety, quality and labeling verification for fabric and garments; testing for flammability within textiles, apparel and home furnishings; color development services, fiber identification, defect analysis and comparative evaluations. Complimentary sample pick-up, emergency and express services are also available to help manufacturers meet production deadlines with ease.

Mr. Kevin O'Brien, President of Bureau Veritas Hong Kong, said, "China-made products are today facing more scrutiny by consumers around the world.  Keeping business in business is becoming a big challenge not only for manufacturers and factory owners in China but also for global Brands and Retailers. Our services help businesses stay competitive by meeting international quality, safety and performance requirements. The establishment of our Guangzhou Textile Testing Laboratory is considered a strategic step for the company in expanding our laboratory network in China.
