Checkpoint Launches Shoplifting Detection Solution

4/15/2013
Checkpoint Systems launched MetalPoint HyperGuard, a digital, software-driven solution that detects foil bags or magnets used by organized retail crime (ORC) groups to shoplift in stores. The device has three detection capabilities: foil bag, magnet and metal cart or trolley, which run concurrently to improve alarm reliability.

With the Global Retail Theft Barometer showing an increase in losses associated with ORC, affecting 47.5% of retailers globally, the MetalPoint HyperGuard was developed based on specific retailer feedback and gives loss prevention managers an additional tool to help identify potential shoplifters as soon as they enter the store.

One of the features that helps to enhance the capabilities of the MetalPoint HyperGuard software solution is its advanced digital 3D-sensing technology to detect metal in foil-lined bags or magnets to determine if a potential shoplifter has entered the store and at which entrance or exit. Metal shopping carts can be properly identified and are no longer detected as a threat, reducing the number of false alarms. Store associates will receive a signal that an individual carrying a common shoplifting device has entered the store, allowing them to take the necessary precautions to avoid potential thefts.

The system can be installed as a stand-alone pedestal alongside existing radio frequency electronic article surveillance EAS antennas, acting as a visual deterrent against ORC or seamlessly integrated into Checkpoint's EVOLVE family of antennas.
