DVDGo.com Launches New Web Search

2/28/2008
DVDGo.com has everything the serious home movie buff could want--old films, current movies and even toy collectibles like knife-wielding Chuckie dolls. New titles, including electronic games, are added daily.

Via a new power search function supplied by Chicago-based Dieselpoint, the Spain-based company's extensive library of new and existing products and titles can be instantly accessed by shoppers throughout Europe. Delivery is guaranteed within 24 to 28 hours. Installation of Dieselpoint is part of a large scale redesign of DVDGo's Web platform.

Raul Garcia, director of ecommerce technology at Grupo Planeta, DVDgo's parent company, notes that DVDGo's offerings are both wide and deep. In addition to its exhaustive array of Spanish- and English-language DVDs, the company features home entertainment accessories (wires, connectors, etc.), puzzles and other items. Without the right technology, a consumer search for a new title can be challenging. Dieselpoint, he adds, provides real time updates and long term scalability.

"We wanted lightening fast performance on the site," says Garcia. "We did not expect this to be easy since we offer one of Europe's largest DVD catalogs. Dieselpoint is oriented toward product and catalog search and provided superior flexibility for our implementation."

The technology provider's web services architecture allows it to work with both DVDGo's .NET framework and its product catalog on an AS400. While other components of the large-scale ecommerce redesign are still being implemented, Dieselpoint was installed in less than two months. Some functions will be launched this summer
