Consumerization of IT refers to the growing trend of information technology innovation being driven primarily by consumer markets, only subsequently to be adapted for enterprise use. Adopted smartly, consumer technologies have the potential to deliver tremendous business efficiency and customer engagement benefits to retailers. That more consumerized technology will pervade the enterprise is a given. Retailers must choose between a narrow approach that focuses on device management, and a broader, strategic one that recognizes the need to integrate this new wave of technology innovation into the very fabric of the organization.
