Find Out What City is Gearing up for its 2010 Fashion Week (Hint: It's Not NYC or LA)
The event will take place February 20Ã.‚¬"27, 2010 in McLean, VA. Access to designer shows and event line up will be available in December 2009.
An annual week-long event, NOVAFW is designed to allow patrons and industry insiders to learn more about fashion and art in Northern Virginia, a previously unrecognized but quickly growing fashion Mecca.
NOVAFW will be held at Tysons Corner Center, a massive and upscale retail center that spans over 2.4 million square feet of space. Under the event's big tents, Tysons Corner Center will become the posh setting for all of NOVAFW's festivities including the Lupus Foundation Charity Gala, designer showcases, workshops and a special designer trunk show and networking engagement where patrons can walk around and connect with some of the city's trendiest fashion insiders.
"Being able to partner with Tysons Corner Center will allow us to produce both a fall and spring Fashion Week starting in 2010. Our Fall fashion week last February was a stepping stone and we have to continue providing a standardized fashion week in this region," says Andrew Roby, executive director of NOVAFW.
Focusing on becoming a Fair Trade, eco-friendly and charitable event, NOVAFW dedicates its proceeds to the Lupus Foundation of America, helping the Foundation's continuing efforts to conduct on-going research for a cure. Since many of NOVAFW's staff and board members have been directly affected by Lupus, the event's web site allows visitors to donate to the cause even if they do not plan on attending the week-long event.
In addition to its charitable efforts, NOVAFW also supports young student designers from local fashion schools and will host a student designer competition judged by celebrity judges and the audience. A prize package aimed at helping the up-and-coming designer further his or her career will be offered to the winning student.
