Fred's Names New President
Meijer-owned discount retailer Fred's appoints Bruce Efird as its new president. Efird will be responsible for overseeing infrastructure changes and merchandising upgrades that will take place over the next five years. He succeeds John Reier, who becomes vice chairman of the Board of Directors. Prior to joining Fred's, Efird served as executive vice president of merchandising for Meijer. Before that, Efird was executive vice president and general manager for Bruno's Supermarkets.
