Holding Off for the Holidays: Nordstrom Shelves Go-Private Plans

10/16/2017

Nordstrom is shelving its plans to go private, following public struggles to secure the financing necessary to cement a deal.

Nordstrom family members – including co-presidents Blake W. Nordstrom, Peter E. Nordstrom, and Erik B. Nordstrom, president of stores James F. Nordstrom, chairman emeritus Bruce A. Nordstrom, and Anne E. Gittinger – notified the special committee of the board of directors that they've suspended active exploration ahead of the holiday season and will resume in early 2018.

The department store retailer has been experimenting with new ways to engage customers, launching a concept store with limited inventory and a focus on experiences. It also announced a push for expanded and integrated sizing bridging the gap between straight and plus sizes.
