New Motorola Imaging Solution Reads U.S. Driver's Licenses
Motorola Enterprise Mobility business (EMb) has introduced the Symbol DS6708-DL. This new digital imager combines all the features of Motorola's standard DS6707 imager, with the added benefit of an on-board parsing agent, which enables users to read the PDF-417 barcode on the driver's licenses of all 50 United States.
The solution allows retailers to use the information garnered from the licenses for a multitude of applications, including the auto-population of a credit or loyalty card application, age verification or returns monitoring.
Furthermore, the imager is appropriate for retail environments of all sizes because it supports multiple interfaces and works with all operating systems. For example, the DS6708-DL can integrate with a centralized IT structure as a server-based solution that enables retailers to develop applications using their in-store server as a point of processing. Or, the parsing can be done within the scanner, which appeals to retailers without central services.
