In the Pink Bids Adieu to POS, Goes Mobile

7/11/2014
In The Pink Stores, the largest chain of Lilly Pulitzer Signature Stores in the U.S. has launched mPOS as part of its store transformation project. The retailer's eight stores are located in Massachusetts with flagship stores on Newbury Street in Boston and on Nantucket Island. Using Apple's iPads and iPad minis powered by Springboard Retail, the retailer was able to remove the cashwrap and stationary POS terminals, going 100% mobile.

The Newbury Street store was the first to go 100% mobile in April. Since the launch the store has experienced a 32% increase in sales compared to the same period last year and over Memorial Day weekend the store saw a 74% increase over last year – customers and sales associates have taken a liking to the mPOS rollout.

In just the first 11 days of the mPOS rollout In the Pink saw a 24.5% increase in sales over the same period for the same store a year ago. Transaction count rose 6.5%, transaction value was up 17%, units per transaction were up 12% and total units sold were up 19%. The retailer was able to repurpose 48 square feet of floor space and reclaimed full floor to ceiling use of 6.5 feet of prime wall space. The Nantucket store will be the next to undergo the transformation.

This transformation offers customers a more intimate and convenient shopping experience, as well as places real-time data in the hands of sales associates while allowing them to ring in customers wherever they are in the store.
