Outdoor retailer REI has appointed Christine Putur as the company’s new Chief Information Officer, RIS News has confirmed. Former REI CIO Julie Averill left the company to become athletic apparel retailer lululemon's new EVP and Chief Technology Officer at the end of May.
Putur is a retail veteran, most recently serving as the CIO and EVP for Coach from 2013 until this year. Putur joined Coach from Staples, where she was SVP and CIO, responsible for IT strategy and implementation globally for the company. Over a 12-year period, Putur held successively senior IT roles within the Staples organization covering e-commerce, strategy, retail, supply chain and global corporate functions. Before Staples, she was with Compaq Computer Corporation.
Information Services Group (ISG), a technology insights, market intelligence and advisory services company, named Putur to its board of directors in 2014. Michael P. Connors, chairman and chief executive officer of ISG said of Putur at the time, "She is an outstanding business leader who brings to our board deep experience in information technology and a fresh perspective on our business from a client's point of view."
Putur has a BA in Administrative Science/Math from Colby College and an MS in Management Information Systems from Boston University.
