RILA Supports Proposed Bipartisan Trade Promotion Authority Bills

The Retail Industry Leaders Association announced its support for the introduction of bipartisan, bicameral Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) bills led by Senators Max Baucus (D-MT) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT), and Congressman David Camp (R-MI).

RILA supports TPA because it empowers the Administration to pursue an ambitious trade agenda, and it empowers Congress to provide the Administration with clear negotiating objectives that promote American competitiveness and participation in global value chains.

"RILA supports an ambitious trade agenda that reduces tariffs and other trade barriers domestically and around the world. We applaud Senators Max Baucus (D,-Mont.) and Orrin Hatch (D- UT), and Congressman David Camp (R-MI) for their leadership in advancing Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) which is so critical to the implementation of trade liberalizing agreements, such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership," said Stephanie Lester, vice president for international trade at RILA.

"These trade agreements are crucial to the retail industry and to providing open access to products and markets around the world. We urge Congress and the Administration to work together and take swift action to enact TPA," she added.
