September Event Highlights Turkish Sourcing Opportunities

To further develop the industry and forge new connections, the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters Association is convening a Trade Mission on Sept. 24-25, 2013, at New York City's Gotham Hall. The event aims to bring together Turkish apparel and textile manufacturers with U.S. sourcing executives.

Turkey's textile and apparel industry is the leading industry in manufacturing and employment contributing to the Turkish economy.

It accounts for 6.8 percent of GDP and 26.3 percent of manufacturing labor
force. In 1980 the industry exported $800 million of goods, which swelled to $24 billion in 2012. Turkey is the sixth biggest apparel supplier in the world and the second in the European Union after China. What's more, the country is the third largest organic cotton producer in the world following Syria and India.
