Sport Chalet Debuts Same-Day Delivery and Rental Return Pickup
Sport Chalet has joined the expanding list of omnichannel retailers seeking an edge against Amazon by offering same-day delivery. The sporting goods retailer debuted same-day delivery earlier this week and will offer the service through most of California as well as in the Las Vegas, NV, Phoenix, AZ and Salt Lake City, UT metro areas.
"Sometimes there just is not enough time for a customer to visit our stores and this new service solves that problem," said Sport Chalet CEO Craig Levra in a statement. "After a customer makes their selection on our website, our Experts will locate the item(s), then deliver the merchandise that same day.
"In addition, for those customers who have rented gear from us and do not want to make the drive back to one of our stores, we will drive to their home or office and retrieve the gear for them," Levra added. The retailer did not provide information on what it would charge customers for the order today/deliver today service.
eBay began testing a same-day delivery mobile app for San Francisco residents last summer, working with some of the biggest names in retail: Target, Best Buy, Toys "R" Us, Macy's, Nordstrom, Walgreens and Crate & Barrel. This past November, eBay expanded this service to New York City's Manhattan and the western edge of Brooklyn.
Not all same-day service involves deliveries. In February, Sears adapted its Mygofer Express service for same-day pickup of digital orders from its flagship Chicago store on State Street. OfficeMax launched same-day store pickup of online orders last November, and Walgreens began a similar service at 500 Chicago-area stores in mid-2011.
