The Beer Store Brews with Triversity and Yantra
The Beer Store, the 436-store Canadian retailer, selects Triversity's Transactionware Enterprise as its retail store system. John Hynes, Beer Store's information services manager of store and DC systems says the key element [for going with Triversity] was the integration with Yantra's solution. As a result, the retailer can efficiently manage store-level inventory and provide network-wide inventory visibility in real time.
Borders Chooses Retek for Optimization
Borders selects Retek's solution suite to help simplify and optimize the merchandising and category management process. "Borders requires a consolidated, integrated system of applications that can support our entire enterprise," said Borders Group CIO, Fred Johnson. "With increased visibility to system-wide supply and demand, it will enable us to optimize our inventory and assortments to support our focus on delivering improved customer service."
Wal-mart Unveils New Urban Format in Florida
Wal-Mart unveils a new urban store format with the opening of its first urban supercenter in Tampa, Florida. The 99,000-sq.-ft. format relocates the pharmacy and health and beauty care to the front of the store, near its single entrance. The unit also features a dual-lane, drive-through pharmacy. Even though the model is of a smaller size, the new store has a broad range of products, cherry-picked from "the best of the best SKUs," according to Paul Lewellen, a Wal-Mart district manager for the Tampa area. The new store uses deeper shelving and higher gondolas to maintain a deep product assortment, with a vast assortment of products geared toward Hispanic consumers, including magazines, greeting cards and groceries.

Raley's Supermarkets is implementing the Tomax Retail.net software solution for support of item management and pricing for the supermarket chain. Connected Retailer Store, a Windows-based store automation system, includes POS, back office and a complete configuration toolset...American Eagle is implementing ProfitLogic's Merchandise Optimization and Store Cluster Optimization solutions. The solutions will help American Eagle make more profitable merchandising decisions after a transition to optimal regional pricing and use capabilities to determine price zones for each of its 742 stores...Home Depot is applying Certegy payment services technology to provide check collection and recovery services to its 1,587 stores in 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Implementation in Home Depot stores began in September 2003. Certegy's collection system enables Home Depot to better focus on customer sales and service.
