Store Front: Hershey Store Offers Interactive Adventure

Hershey Store Offers Interactive Adventure
Hershey's Chicago, a 3,600 square-foot theme store, offers visitors the opportunity to create their own Hershey employee IDs and factory worker hats as well as package and decorate their own Hershey products. Customers also can operate the Magnificent Chocolate Works machine to create and dispense personalized Hershey products. Hershey's Chicago is the company's second theme store -- the first store is located in Times Square in New York City. The company also operates a retail operation at Hershey Park in Hershey, Pennsylvania and an e-commerce Web site built with Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 on the Microsoft.NET Framework.

Coinstar Service Enhances Retail Experience
An Alabama resident recently broke the world record for the largest personal penny collection, cashing in more than 1.3 million coins at a local Coinstar machine. The technology is available in more than 270 different supermarkets including Albertsons, Food Lion and Kroger, with more than 10,000 locations across the U.S., the U.K. and Canada. As the technology progresses, coin counting kiosks have begun to offer additional services, including pay-as-you-go products and services such as prepaid wireless airtime, prepaid debit cards, prepaid long distance, digital content, and electronic payroll services.

Liberty Foundation Gets On-Demand System
The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation is using OrderMotion on-demand order- and fulfillment-management system from CommercialWare for its Web site sales of printed manifests and other historical documents. The Foundation's non-profit business continues to grow as more people flock to the Lady Liberty, Ellis Island and the new Wall of Honor.

Pacesetter 2005: Charles Dean, CVS Pharmacy
Charles Dean, vice president of business relationship and technology office, CVS Pharmacy, and his team recently implemented a number of important projects, including a Pharmacy Service Initiative (PSI) which brought workflow and standard process to the pharmacy, Automated Doctor Faxing and a loss prevention initiative called VIPER. "Overall, our initiatives target hard business results," explains Dean, an RIS News 2005 Pacesetter. "PSI drove significant improvement in customer service metrics and Automated Doctor Fax improved communications with doctors while saving more than 500,000 hours in pharmacy labor. VIPER continues to enable CVS to deliver industry leading shrink numbers. The initiatives we are working on will further allow us to optimize our store labor investments and streamline company-wide processes."
