Safeway licenses Lawson's Retail InSight software to support its product management and marketing goals by enabling the grocer to better understand the buying patterns of consumers based on macro-data on cross-category buying on different types of shopping trips. In an effort to better serve its customers, Safeway is also partnering with the State of California and the American Red Cross to help families plan and prepare in the event of an emergency. Safeway executives joined California's First Lady Maria Shriver, actress Jamie Lee Curtis and other dignitaries in kicking off the state's "Be Smart, Be Responsible, Be Prepared, Be Ready!" public service campaign aimed at encouraging better emergency planning and preparedness. All California stores will sell American Red Cross Emergency Preparedness Starter Kits specially created for the campaign.
Derby Bets on IBM Kiosk
Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, equips seating in the Sports Book, reserved areas and suites with IBM Anyplace Kiosks and PDAs as part of the track's recent $110 million renovation project. Horse race fans can access all of the information needed to pick favorite horses, place bets and order food and drinks directly from their seats. The terminals and PDAs will be connected via high-speed LAN and WLAN.

Comedy Works comedy venue installs Epson's Mobilink wireless POS printer to maximize food, beverage and merchandise sales and waitstaff productivity. The device provides plug-and-play performance with Comedy Works' Symbol PPT 8800 handheld computers and Digital Dining's POS application software. Since the adoption of Mobilink, Comedy Works has experienced measurable improvements in customer service and increased sales.
Seattle Mariners Add CRS Software to the Lineup
The Seattle Mariners selects CRS Retail Systems merchandise and POS software solutions to expedite transactions and keep merchandise restocked and on the shelves in the Mariners' flagship Team Store. With 81 home games, the franchise must manage the inventory of its own team merchandise, as well as the competing teams' licensed merchandise.
