Target and American Eagle Outfitters have announced the rollout of Shopkick, a location-based shopping app that rewards shoppers for walking into stores, to all store locations, including Aerie, nationwide.
"We've learned from our guests that they appreciate being rewarded for doing what they already love to do – shopping at Target," says Bonnie Gross, vice president of marketing and guest engagement for Target. "In our test launch, Target guests in seven cities had the opportunity to experience Shopkick at Target and we received rave reviews. Now guests nationwide can start earning valuable points just by shopping our stores."
When guests walk into a Target store, Shopkick rewards them with points known as "kicks." Then, as guests shop the store, they have the opportunity to scan products such as everyday items like food and cleaning supplies, or specialty products like electronics and toys, for additional "kicks."
Target celebrated the rollout with 300 Kicks for walking into any store location. These "kicks" can be redeemed for Target gift cards, Facebook credits, dining gift certificates, iTunes downloads, donations to charities and more. Guests can also receive special in-store deals including coupons and discounts
American Eagle Outfitters has also launched nationwide and will integrate Shopkick "kicks" with its own loyalty program, enabling customers to turn their "kicks" into AEREWARDS points. The retailer first launched the app in August of 2010 and continued to test the technology in more than 200 stores. In addition to engaging customers with the brand, AEO found increased traffic, sales and higher purchase amounts among Shopkick users.

To celebrate the national launch, American Eagle and Aerie are featuring a full week of Shopkick offers including: 200 bonus "Kicks" for walking in, 20% off a total purchase, 15% off AEO footwear, 15% off swim, 15% off jeans, 15% off polos and fashion tops, 15% off fragrances and 15% off dresses/skirts and woven tops.
Target, American Eagle and Aerie join a growing list of Shopkick partners including Best Buy, Macy’s, Crate & Barrel, The Sports Authority, Wet Seal, West Elm, Kraft Foods, Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Intel, HP, CoverGirl, Disney, General Mills, Levi’s, Mr. Clean, Olay, Revlon, Tilex and Trident.
