Tech Innovations

Mobile commerce is generating tons of buzz as retailers are quickly navigating ways to reap benefits from this emerging channel. Mobility solutions are also generating buzz, and Cornell-Mayo and Global Bay are early innovators in this space, with each unveiling mobile POS solutions for the iPod touch.

Cornell Mayo's Omniexpress, although pocket-sized, offers the full functionality of a POS. It operates wirelessly and has the ability to accept credit and gift cards.

Global Bay's innovative MPOS features a similar look and feel to the Apple Easy Pay POS. MPOS offers a wide variety of functions including receipt printing, bar code scanning, as well as fraud protection support.

Beyond mobile POS solutions, Primera released a new desktop label printer that prints at lightening speeds and high resolution images at 4800 dpi.

Lastly, Motorola introduced its new DS3500 series of rugged digital bar code scanners with digital imaging technology, which reads 1D and 2D bar codes.

Wireless POS Prints and E-mails Receipts

A mobile POS for the iPod Touch, Omniexpress from Cornell-Mayo Associates, offers full point-of-sale functionality, the ability to accept credit and gift cards, and can wirelessly print or e-mail receipts. Omniexpress delivers the capabilities of a mobile POS solution in a pocket-sized handheld device. It combines Cornell- Mayo's Omnistore POS application with the intuitive interface of Apple's iPod touch. The lightweight mobile computing solution also includes a scanner and magnetic stripe reader (MSR).

Scanner Streamlines Inventory Management

Motorola introduces the DS3500 series of rugged digital bar code scanners with digital imaging technology. Motorola's DS3508-HD corded and DS3578-HD cordless scanners are capable of reading small and dense 1D and 2D bar codes. The DS3508-SR corded and DS3578-SR cordless scanners help streamline inventory management. The DS3500 series of digital scanners is available in six models and integrates with Bluetooth in cordless models, allowing employees to move freely throughout their work environments.

Mobile POS Offers Fraud Protection

Global Bay launches a mobile point-of sale (MPOS) for the iPod Touch. The solution offers receipt printing, bar code scanning, fraud protection support and has the ability to export purchase history and settlement information to CSV, Excel, and QuickBooks. MPOS is store system agnostic and can be integrated to various POS systems from Raymark, Epicor (CRS/NSB), JDA, SAP (Triversity) and Oracle (360 Commerce).

Speedy Desktop Label Printer

A desktop label printer, the LX900 Color Label Printer, from Primera produces full-color product labels.
