These Are the Top Trends in Gift Giving

While women buy twice as many gifts as men, men spend 35 percent more per gift.  And what are they buying?  Handbags were one of the top gifts in 2018, and more than 47 percent of gifts were apparel, shoes and accessories.  This and other gifting trends were revealed today from GiftNow a digital gifting platform widely used by major retailers including: Athleta, Banana Republic, Bergdorf Goodman, Coach, Kate Spade, Michael KORS, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Target, among many others.

The trend data was gathered in the first 10 months of 2018 through GiftNow, a platform provided by Loop Commerce, a Synchrony Solution, which also highlighted the top 10 gifts, including:

  1. Women’s handbags
  2. Women’s wallets
  3. Wristwatches
  4. Women’s athletic apparel
  5. Men’s t-shirts
  6. Women’s dresses
  7. Men’s sweats & hoodies
  8. Women’s fragrances
  9. Women’s coats & jackets
  10. Baby bouncers

Finally, additional data showed that last-minute shoppers are twice as likely to use their mobile phones to buy their gifts.
