Top 10 Richest Retailers in the World

3/25/2014
Retail is a gateway to becoming the richest person in the world. This is a loaded statement, but on Forbes' ranking of The World's 500 Richest People, retailers take significant ownership of the list with six of the top 10. Among the retailers on this list, Walmart has a strong showing taking four of the top spots. Other retailers include international fashion icons Zara and H&M, supermarket chains Aldi and Kaufland and, of course, Amazon.com.

While Warren Buffett* of Berkshire Hathaway isn't directly a retailer, we've included him on this list – in the number two spot – due to his ownership of H.H. Brown Shoe Co., Helzberg Diamonds, The Pampered Chef, Jordan's Furniture to name a few, as well as significant investment with many retailers, including Costco Wholesale and Walmart.

We all know retail and technology go hand-in-hand today, so it's interesting to see that several technology influencers rank atop the list as well. These include Bill Gates of Microsoft ($76B), Larry Ellison of Oracle ($48B), Larry Page of Google ($32.3B), Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook ($28.5B) and Steve Ballmer of Microsoft ($19.3B).

Without further ado, here are the Top 10 Richest Retailers in the World:
