Walmart, QVC/HSN Supplier Events Go Virtual

It’s a new year for industry events, and retailers’ product discoveries are no exception.  

Walmart’s annual Open Call for U.S. manufactured products, now in its seventh year, will be held virtually in order maintain proper social distancing guidelines.

As part of the retailer’s commitment to get more U.S.-manufactured products on its shelves and website, the No. 1 retailer invites suppliers and manufacturers to apply for a chance to pitch items to its buyers. It’s once again teaming with product discovery platform provider RangeMe to streamline the submission process.

The deadline to apply is Aug. 10, and the virtual pitch event will be held Oct. 1.

QVC U.S. and HSN, meanwhile, are putting a new twist on their Big Find international product search. Now in its second year, The Big Find calls on entrepreneurs and brands to share their stories across QVC and HSN’s broadcast, digital and streaming platforms. As with Walmart’s Open Call, the Big Find will be held virtually and conducted with RangeMe’s support.

The Big Find will accept applications from brands across nine categories, including apparel, jewelry, accessories, footwear and beauty. New categories this year include home décor, home innovation, electronics and culinary. Interested brands can submit their information through the RangeMe platform, and select entrepreneurs or vendors will be invited to pitch their products virtually in September via videoconference to a panel of QVC and HSN judges.

Applications, including video, will be accepted through Aug. 19.

“At QVC and HSN, we’ve launched and nurtured some of the nation’s most successful entrepreneurial brands, and now through The Big Find, we continue to bring customers innovative new brands, compelling products and inspiring stories,” said Mary Campbell, chief merchandising officer, Qurate Retail Group, and chief commerce officer, QVC US. “For our 2020 search, the RangeMe platform streamlines the application process for participating brands and supports our efforts in discovering new and innovative products for our millions of customers.”

Last year's event brought in more than 650 entries from 12 countries, with more than 65 beauty and fashion brands selected to introduce their products across QVC and HSN platforms throughout 2020.

Lowe's is teaming with the Shark Tank star to provide opportunities for suppliers in underrepresented communities to pitch their products to the retailer.  

Dollar General wants to expand the diversity of its product offerings, and it’s holding a virtual event that gives new suppliers a chance to meet with merchandise buyers and category managers.
