Wawa To Break Ground on New Stores Across Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky

Pennsylvania-based convenience store chain Wawa has revealed plans to expand to Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana over the next decade. As of now, Wawa has over 970 stores across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, and Washington D.C

Here are the specific details of the planned store openings: 

Indiana 

Wawa plans to open approximately 60 stores across the Indiana region over the next 8-10 years, with the initial groundbreaking slated to begin mid-2024. The company says it currently has more than 16 sites under contract across Clark, Dearborn, Delaware, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Madison, Marion, and Wayne Counties, all of which are currently in the permitting and approval process. In the meantime, Wawa teams are continuing to look for sites throughout the market. The first store locations are estimated to open by mid-2025, with plans to open up to 10 locations that year, 10 additional stores in 2026, and five stores each of the years following. 

“We were thrilled to share our ‘flight plan’ for Indiana and reveal, for the very first time, our exciting expansion plans, renderings, and more with our newest soon-to-be neighbors!” said Joe Collins, director of store operations for Wawa.

Ohio

Wawa plans to open approximately 60 stores across the Ohio region over the next 8-10 years, with the initial groundbreaking also slated to begin mid-2024. The company says it currently has more than 16 sites under contract across Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Greene, Hamilton, Miami, Montgomery, and Warren Counties, all of which are currently in the permitting and approval process. In the meantime, Wawa teams are continuing to look for sites throughout the market. The first store locations are estimated to open by mid-2025, with plans to open up to 10 locations that year, 10 additional stores in 2026, and five stores each of the years following. 

Kentucky 

The retailer plans to open approximately 40 stores across the region over the next 8-10 years with the first groundbreakings slated to begin in mid-2024. Currently, Wawa has more than 15 sites under contract in various Kentucky counties, with these projects still in the permitting and approval process. The company says it will reveal specific locations and timings for the first Kentucky store openings in once these permitting processes are complete.
