Aldi Launches Virtual Convenience Store

aldi omnichannel expansion

Value grocery retailer Aldi is building out its convenience offering, launching Aldi Express – a virtual store delivering products in as little as 30 minutes.

Aldi is deepening its partnership with Instacart to spearhead this latest project. Available in more than 2,100 U.S. stores, Aldi Express will offer shoppers around 2,000 of its most popular products, including prepared foods, drinks, snacks, and household essentials.

The two companies first teamed up in 2017, extending the partnership a year later to include alcohol delivery services.

“We know our customers live hectic lives, and sometimes that means they don't have time to make it to the grocery store - even for a quick trip. Through ALDI Express, we're making shopping more convenient so you can satisfy a craving or get a missing ingredient in minutes,” said Scott Patton, VP of national buying at ALDI. “Together with Instacart, we'll continue to find ways to innovate and make the online grocery experience even more effortless and accessible.”

Aldi’s Omnichannel Expansion

The virtual world is not the only area of expansion for the grocer, which recently announced it would add 120 new brick-and-mortar stores this year, taking it to 2,400 stores nationwide by the end of the year. The new store openings will span the U.S., including the rapidly growing Southeast region where ALDI recently opened its 26th regional headquarters and distribution center in Loxley, AL, to help support new stores in the area. This year, ALDI will also add stores in Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

“While inflation is undoubtedly driving unprecedented demand for affordable groceries, we know that once customers experience the ALDI difference, they keep shopping with us, even when the economy improves,” said Jason Hart, CEO, ALDI U.S. “Our growth is led by our customers, and they continue to want more ALDI locations coast-to-coast.”
