Maternity apparel retailer Destination Maternity said a database containing personal customer information was breached in March.
The retailer publicly disclosed it experienced a “cyber event that impacted certain information technology systems” on March 20, 2021.
The breach affected Destination Maternity’s network and customer database. This database contains information such as customer names, addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers and potentially due dates if that information was provided to Destination Maternity by customers. However, the retailer said it does not store customer Social Security or credit card numbers, and other financial information and this type of information was not impacted by this event.
The retailer said it immediately took steps to isolate those systems and launched an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident.
It has notified potentially affected individuals and is cooperating with Federal law enforcement. It is also reviewing and enhancing existing policies and procedures. The retailer encourages customers to remain vigilant against incidents of identity theft and fraud by reviewing account statements and monitoring free credit reports for suspicious activity and to detect errors over the next 12 to 24 months.
