Ocado’s Cutting-Edge Robotic Warehouse Destroyed by Fire

Ocado’s cutting-edge robotic warehouse in Andover, England caught fire on Tuesday ravaging the automated DC.

The fire burned for more than 24 hours and caused significant damage to the online grocer’s flagship automated DC, which is capable of processing more than 60,000 orders a week.

“There has been substantial damage to the Andover building and its contents,” Ocado said in a statement. “Ocado is working hard to minimize disruption for customers by increasing capacity at other facilities. Ocado is grateful for the patience and understanding of customers during this period.

As the fire raged on inside the facility as many as 100 local residents were evacuated from their home as firefighters feared a cylinder of toxic ammonia gas inside the building might exploded. That gas was safely removed and residents were able to return to their homes.
