By Jamie Grill-Goodman - 01/09/2017
Sam's Club CEO and President Rosalind Brewer is leaving the company, according to reports. Brewer joined Sam’s Club, a division of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., in 2012.

Brewer is leaving because "she wants a new challenge," Doug McMillon, CEO of Wal-Mart Stores told staff in a memo, according to Fortune. She will be replaced by John Furner, Sam's Club's chief merchant.

Brewer joined Walmart in 2006 as regional vice president, overseeing operations in Georgia. She later became division president of the Southeast, and then president of Walmart East.

Before joining Walmart, she worked for Kimberly-Clark Corp. for 22 years, starting as a scientist and eventually becoming president of the Global Nonwovens Sector in 2004.

Furner currently serves as the Executive Vice President, Merchandising, Sam's Club, where he oversees all of merchandising for Sam’s Club including Global Sourcing, Packaging and Private Brands. Most recently Furner served as Chief Merchandising and Chief Marketing officer of Walmart China, where he was over Merchandising, Procurement, Marketing, Supply Chain, Financial Services and Mobile Commerce for the Hypermarket division.
Furner joined Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., as an hourly associate in 1993.  Later positions included Management Intern, Assistant Store Manager, Assistant Buyer, Operations Development, Co-Manager, Store Manager, District Manager, Buyer and Divisional Merchandise Manager.

He was promoted to Vice President and Divisional Merchandise Manager in 2006, Regional General Manager and Vice President Northeast Operations in February 2008, Vice President Global Sourcing and Seasonal Merchandising in 2010, Senior Vice President of Proprietary Brands and Merchandise Solutions in May 2011, Senior Vice President of Home & Apparel and Global Sourcing in January 2012, and Senior Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer for Walmart China in January 2013.
