Sephora Deploys Mobile POS Solution Using Apple iPod Devices

Luxury retailer Sephora has deployed a mobile point-of-sale solution in a large number of its 28-0 U.S. stores using software from Agilysys and RedIron on Apple iPod touch devices.

"We wanted a solution that seamlessly integrates and extends our SAP POS system via a mobile POS customer-engagement experience," said Sephora vice president of retail store systems Shah Nagree in a statement.

LVMH-owned Sephora is running RedIron's SAP POS web services 2Mobile middleware and Agilysys' NextPosition interface on the iPod devices. The deployment launched in September at the retailer's newly opened headquarters store in New York City's Meatpacking District. The solution provides comprehensive mobile customer service with point-of-sale and return functionalities, as well as the ability to use remote cash drawers and Zebra receipt printers.

"The feedback from our clients and cast members has been overwhelmingly positive," said Nagree.

Agilysys served as the overall systems integrator and project manager. RedIron's 2Mobile software provided the Web services framework for integrating traditional POS business functions and tenders, so any transaction or experience at a traditional POS device could be driven off of a mobile device using NextPosition by Agilysys mobile software.
